Welcome. Welcome back to another episode of Uploaded and Unfiltered, the podcast in which I, your host Jermaine, interviews another content creator in regards to the journey thus far. This week, like most weeks, I have a special guest and before I get her on the line, I'm going to read her bio so we get a bit of information from her. Then we'll have an awesome conversation. Neo shiriami is a multi-faceted artist known for her singing, variety streaming, writing, voice acting, cosplay and seven kinds of nerd podcast. A lover of all stories in all forms, neil's passion radiates through her content as she explores various aspects of nerd culture, creating an inviting space for her fans to connect, share their story. A born entertainer, she shines brightest while fostering community engagement, treating each stream episode and creative work as a new storytelling opportunity. Her dedication to her craft and community ensures that each interaction leaves a lasting impression on her audience. With that, I'd like to introduce my guest for the evening Ne-Yo. Thank you for doing this. Welcome to the stream. How are you doing?
Speaker 2:I'm doing all right, happy to be here.
Speaker 1:We're going to start slow. How did you get started in content creation and what is it that you say you do in content?
Speaker 2:So I think I've started in content creation sooner than I even acknowledged it. It was mostly, I've always been a creative person. I've always been someone who's very passionate about anything and everything, especially things that I love or dislike or have Anything with strong feelings. I've always been very passionate about it. So I started, you know, writing little blog posts, writing little reviews and dissertations, that I started doing little Snapchat stories as I went through new types of new content, new types of media like animes and music and all sorts of stuff, and then I really, I guess I really fell into the niche when I started streaming. So streaming was something that was not actually on my radar for a lot of years, right, but I had a few friends who were streamers, who had become streamers within, like you know, six, eight months of each other, and we were like a trio.
Speaker 2:So, when the duo of the trio leaves to do something else you gotta follow suit but, yeah, the solo artist starts to feel a little left out. So, yeah, I'm just like you know, suddenly, because of a happenstance and some kind donations from friends, I was like, hey, I kind of have everything I need to start streaming. What if I just try it out and here we are. The rest is history that is awesome.
Speaker 1:So how long ago was that, was that initial first stream? Do you remember?
Speaker 2:uh, yeah, I do um.
Speaker 1:First stream was actually january of 2023 oh, really, yeah, okay, so I haven't been doing it for too, too long, but almost two years I was telling, uh, somebody I can't remember who was and my apologies, but your stream set up you couldn't tell that you've been doing it only for two years. It looks like you've been doing it for a while, so whatever you did in that time like people need to catch up, that's awesome.
Speaker 1:Appreciate that, yeah, no problem, all right. Well, let's go ahead and slide into the next section. I started this podcast because I like talking about our feelings for lack of a better word like how do we feel about our content, like what does it mean to us when we're going through things or putting stuff out there for the world? So my question to you is what is your current mindset in regards to your content? And bonus question in like three to six months, where do you see yourself in the content space?
Speaker 2:so my current mindset is I guess the best way to describe it is just my current mindset is level up. I just want to continue to elevate everything. Like I wasn't happy with how I was sounding on stream so I got a new mic. I'd save to get it, but I you know we made it happen. I liked how the camera was set up but I was like I want camera angles so I saved some more to try to get a new camera, which has not paid off. But you know what we're?
Speaker 1:working on it. We're working on it, it's happening.
Speaker 2:So anything and everything I can do to just level up and elevate is what I'm trying to do. I think this year I want to put a much stronger emphasis on diversifying content. So I love to stream. Streaming is amazing. Streaming gives me the ability to interact immediately with my audience and with my community and we can grow and thrive and really get that back and forth and talk more and delve deeper. But I want to get I want to do more long-form content, I want to do more short-form content. I want to do more, you know, like post tiktoks and reels and all the things like to really delve into.
Speaker 2:And I also want to dive deeper this year into, uh, the cosplay aspect of my, of my content, because yeah I do a lot of cosplaying, like usually like closet class plays for stream, because like I'm sitting usually so like you don't see the whole everything, but like we're going to cons, you know we're going out, we're gonna, so I'm I'm trying to get fully into it do more photo shoots do more, uh, more fun stuff this year.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that is awesome. I feel like a lot of creators this year are getting into their all right. I've been streaming for the last two, three, four, five, six years. Let me see what youtube looks like. Let me see what a real or two looks like. I think that's awesome. Attracts me to my favorite content or my favorite streamers. Is that I get to see that behind the scenes not even so much behind the scenes, but you get to see a different angle yeah because when you're live you're pretty much like you get what you get.
Speaker 2:Yes, which is why it works for a lot of people, especially us ADHDers, because I have spent a lot of years making drafts of videos that no one has ever seen Because I overthought it in my head, so I didn't post it, but when I'm live here we are.
Speaker 1:You can't do anything. Yeah, it's like I'm not editing this. Later it's out here, Right? Yeah, it's like I'm not editing this later.
Speaker 2:It's out here Right, exactly that.
Speaker 1:That is awesome, all right, cool. So, with that being said, another favorite section of mine is lessons learned no-transcript.
Speaker 2:The biggest lesson I think I've learned is there truly is an audience for everything and everyone. It is easy, as creatives and as content creators, to get in our heads of like, oh, nobody's going to like this. Oh, is anyone going to listen? Is anyone going to watch? Like, would it even be fun for people to say yes, yes, do it, do it. Like your audience will find you before you make the content. It is none of your business. Who wants it? You?
Speaker 1:make the content.
Speaker 2:Put it out there and people will find it.
Speaker 1:The audience will find it, and when you find your people, they will thank you for it as well 100% I agree with that and I just got reminded of that lesson I was watching on YouTube is this dude who bought a like stage equipment to make laser shows, but I just were like his bedroom.
Speaker 2:Well, that's awesome.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and he's just making custom lasers. I was like I'm just watching him program this hardware that I will never touch. Never, I just seeing his joy and seeing his output, like what happens when he's done. I'm just like who would have thought that I'd be sitting here watching youtube or this dude make this goddamn laser show, but you never know like somebody's gonna want to watch your content exactly period but, as long as you remember that, like you don't have to worry, that's the one less thing for you to worry about.
Speaker 1:You're like somebody's gonna watch this. Eventually, my audience is gonna find me so. So, yes, keep pushing.
Speaker 2:And they will.
Speaker 1:That is awesome. Well, I feel like you dropped some word. I see I need to switch these lessons learned and word of advice. They're getting like two pieces. I guess that's the point of the podcast. Let me stop. Yeah, words of advice. Who do you want to give advice to and what type of advice would you give them?
Speaker 2:I want advice to all the former me's of the world, all the people who are on the fence about content creation, which is literally just that like do it, because the hardest part sometimes is pushing go live. The hardest part is pushing post, upload, you know, like editing. Yeah, that's hard, it takes some time. You got to put some effort in Posting. It is harder than editing sometimes and it's worth it every time to take that final step, that step, that last step is the best step. So push, go live, post it, do it, do it, do it. You won't regret it.
Speaker 1:I again 100% agree. There's a sticky. I haven't named this period of time, but that period of time where you've come up with an idea to where you actually execute it. There's all that wiggle room of you being scared or self-doubt gets to creep in, like we can figure out how to like, isolate and destroy that little time frame Like we'd be doing anything we wanted to.
Speaker 2:Everything we want to.
Speaker 1:Oh my goodness. Don't let that fear stop you Stop you, we need you. Exactly, neal. I do have a question in regards to your stream. Yes, what does a typical stream look like for you?
Speaker 2:So a typical Neo stream you will have the beginning of stream will usually take 20, 30 minutes to just like talk, just rap, just hang out, unless, and unless there's something like very pressing, like if there's an event or something that is like, ok, the game's loading right now we got to go Then then.
Speaker 2:Then we jump in but, like, usually it's like you know, we catch up, we talk about the week. Sometimes we'll talk about whatever hyper fixation neo's currently in or whatever someone has in chat to offer up. Okay, chat seems to like my, my hot takes. I have a thing that I call my three dollars and 45 cents um, and I say that people ask for two like your two cents on something I very rarely have, just two cents. So it's three dollars and 45 cents um that I will give on any sort of subject. Uh, so we'll talk about those kind of things.
Speaker 2:Someone will it's like what do you think about this anime? Like, oh, that one, good lord, all right here. Here's where we start, like you know. But we just like talk, hang out, really kind of grow and connect as a community, and then we get into whatever the game or event is of the evening, which I'm a variety streamer, so that could be a music stream, that could be, uh, doing a song battle, that could be playing a story-based game. Usually, um, sometimes it's playing like splatoon, which is my one competitive game, except for marvel rivals yeah, but other times okay listen I didn't want to be okay, but now here we are you know exactly.
Speaker 2:But yeah, so that's usually how we, how we set up, and then I I'm a singer, so I do sing on stream and just like randomly throughout, and I'm very ADHD, but that's how, that's how we make it fun, just like what's happening. Who, what? What is about a main story?
Speaker 1:We've just like what's happening who, what, what is about a main story. We've done every side quest, so it's fine, we'll finish the game eventually. Maybe it's a variety, so this is good, exactly all right now you know what you're here for. A random question, because you mentioned that you're a singer yes do you have any plans on doing any content in regards to singing?
Speaker 2:whatever that looks like. So yes, I I do, I do currently also do like some music stuff um I don't.
Speaker 2:I haven't released as much music in the last couple years as I would have liked to, but all of that I keep it a little bit separate. Like I sing on stream, sometimes I'll sing some of my original music on stream. All of my like starting and ending stream music is my music, um, so I try to blend it in that way, yeah, but I most of the time if I'm doing like a full music stream or like a like this is me, it's, it's under my music name, so it is a little bit separated, but I do. I do love to do as much like music content as I can as well.
Speaker 1:Yeah, your community uh is getting it all like there's like there's only spy. I need to be in what you mean it's like I'd be trying exactly, I love it. I love it all right. Well, we have reached the part of our show where you get to brag about all of your socials and all the projects you're working on. So if I wanted to check out, neo, where am I headed?
Speaker 2:absolutely okay. So, um, I'm neo shirimi, pretty much anywhere socials are found. Um, I'm on blue sky, I'm on uh, you know tiktok, whatever all this, all the apps. It's just neo shirimi. You can find me on twitch under neo shirimi. My podcast is the one exception where the name is a little different. It is the seven kinds of nerd podcast, because I'm at least seven kinds of nerd. Um, yeah, hey, you know, but I could. The one thing about content is I always like niche down I love it all I love it all too much.
Speaker 2:So seven kinds of nerd here we are, like, yeah, we're gonna talk about, we're gonna talk about star trek, we're gonna talk about anime, we're gonna talk about all the things. So, um, so, yeah, that's where you can. You can pretty much find me anywhere. But yeah, seven con podcast, um, seven kinds of nerd podcast. You can find me and otherwise it's neoshirimi. Anywhere content is found hell yeah.
Speaker 1:Her links and everything that she mentioned will be in the show description of this show and always if you haven't already subscribed to the podcast uploaded and unfiltered and share it with all of your content friends. I've decided I don't know why, it just randomly popped in my head, but I'm creating content for content creators. Yes, because I really want, like okay, this is going to be a short mini spiel. I come to the realization that a lot of media that we assume is not always the best for us. So if we can supplement some of that horrible with something that's going to enrich us or at least give us a different perspective, I think would be better off in the long run. So, content for content creators share with your friends and leave me a review. Also, there's a link. If you click it, you can send me directly a message and I'll read it on stream. I wait, where are we at? On the podcast.
Speaker 2:I'll do it on stream too, ashley two for one other than that.
Speaker 1:Neo, thank you for doing this episode. I always tell every one of my guests like I get lucky with my guests because I guess I, we were at TwitchCon and we know a bunch of mutuals and it was just so dope to see people that not only that you knew, but that you didn't know that was doing dope shit.
Speaker 2:So yes, Thank you for doing this.
Speaker 1:So happy we ran into each other at TwitchCon, right, I was like oh, that person has dope energy, she's hanging out with them and we all know each other. All right, yes, let's build this, build this brand.
Speaker 2:So yes, absolutely.
Speaker 1:Other than that, yo yo thank y'all for listening, appreciate y'all and, as always, protect your mental, keep creating content and I'll see you in the next one, peace.
