Welcome. Welcome back to another episode of Uploaded and Unfiltered, the podcast in which I, your host Jermaine, interview as a content creator in regards to their journey thus far. We talk a lot about mental health on this podcast, and for good reason. Mental health is one of those things that often gets ignored, but it's very fundamental to the way and quality of life we can enjoy. Oh, when did I start this? Three years ago, and forgive me if I mean I've said it a few times I own a coaching business. It's a mindset coaching business for black content creators and I feel like I haven't talked about it enough and, if I'm being honest, it's probably rooted in fear. But that fear is not here, no more, and I think it's gone forever. So let's go ahead and get into my coaching business.
Speaker 1:Before we get started, I wanted to give a shout out to my brother, swell Rel. He just put out his fourth album, kill Protocol. It is really good. I've already listened to it almost twice and I'm just super proud of him. He was on tour I forget when it started, but basically this entire summer he's been going from city to city with MC Chris and doing this thing. Super proud of him. I can't wait to have him on the show. That'll probably be one of the first video podcasts we do, but nothing but good to say about him. Oh my god, I can't, like it's crazy that my brother is wrapping his ass off like this. And it's my brother like I'm not shocked because I know that man's talented, but it's crazy. I can just text him and be like hey, yo, I really like this song. Or asking questions about the album and I like that access. So, anyway, shout out to you Swell, thank you for being you and thank you for putting out another banger. All right, so let's get started.
Speaker 1:The company is called Radiant Reflection and I went with Radiant Reflection because I want the content that I create and the content that I help others create come from a place from within size, something that is authentic and it is radiant. That is amazing, that is uplifting, that is bringing joy and awareness and amazing content to the world, and that's why I went with Radiant Reflection before. I always knew I wanted to work with creatives. I always knew I wanted to work with black creatives and when I started doing my research on how marketing is used basically against us, it made me want to jump in and help creators make more content so we can take over that narrative and form our own stories and show who we are and how we want to show up in this world. So that is the grand plan, the master scheme behind everything. I just want to get more of us creating content, because more of us need to be seen in this world.
Speaker 1:So I help Black creators who feel emotionally stuck, and that can be anything from grief, anxiety, imposter syndrome, procrastination. Like you know, you have something awesome that you want to share with the world. But these things, these mental emotions, these hoops, these stucknesses, are what's keeping you back from creating that content or being consistent, and I know without a shadow of a doubt that I can help with that. And I've been quiet, I have not been talking my shit, I've not been offering my services like I should be. This is something I'm excited about. This is something I'm passionate about. This is something I'm passionate about, and I can't, because I'm in this place I am now. I can't pinpoint what was stopping me from going as hard as I'm about to go, and I honestly, I think it was fear. It's the fear of the imposter syndrome for me. This is something new for me While I've lived this way almost my whole life, some of the concepts that I'll be teaching and helping people wrap their heads around are things that I've been thinking about since I was a young, young child. I remember and this is going to be crazy, but it makes sense to me, so I'm going to share it with you.
Speaker 1:When I was younger, I did not believe giraffes exist. Oh, bear with me, I know that sounds crazy, but yeah, I've read about them in books and we saw them in pictures and maybe in a movie. But for me that was a insane like I had no concept of what a giraffe would look like in real life and until I saw one in real life, I just didn't believe it and I used to upset people, but in my mind there was no downside of me not believing the giraffes were real because they didn't like have any beneficial effect on my life and like not believing it it didn't mean that I didn't believe in other stuff. Like it was just so simple to me and that's how most things are in life. If it's not affecting me now, if it's not in front of me, then nine times out of 10, I'm not going to believe it. There's no benefit for me to believe it or not believe it. So I just chose not to. And then I finally saw a giraffe in real life and I was like, okay, they're real.
Speaker 1:No-transcript is why believe something that you don't have any proof for? That is detrimental to the overall quality of your life. If you want to create content but you stop yourself because you think, oh, nobody's looking for me. What's the point of that? Like what? Honestly, what is the point of that? You're just setting up a situation for you to feel bad about yourself, to be anxious to want something and not go after it.
Speaker 1:The thing that's happening is, every time you say nobody's looking for me or nobody's watching my content, or you look at your numbers and they're low and you're like man nobody really cares what I think you because your numbers are low and you're like man, nobody really cares what I think. You're telling your subconscious this is a dangerous thing. Stop me from doing it. And guess what happens. Procrastination, imposter syndrome, anxiety those are the emotions that get thrown up by your subconscious to stop you from doing things that it thinks is dangerous. What I do to help your mind stop doing that. Stop doing that thing that is causing emotional pain.
Speaker 1:Instead of processing the trauma or reliving things that are hurtful, I help the mind clear the misread data that's been clogging the system, because I worked in computers for so long like this just synced up perfectly in my head. Our computer or our minds, rather our computer systems and sometimes our computer system is reading data incorrectly. What I help do is reset that data, reset that misalignment of reading, make sure that your mind is seeing the you going live is not as dangerous, but it's something that's exciting, something that is worth doing or becoming consistent, not something that is hard, because hard equals dangerous, dangerous equals death. No, being consistent isn't hard. You just need to find a routine that's going to work for you. You need to find what makes that routine enjoyable, pleasurable, so your brain is excited to do it and it won't throw up excuses because it doesn't think that it is dangerous.
Speaker 1:This is not talk therapy. Again, we don't relive the past. It's about updating the software, aka your unconscious mind, so it stops looking for pain when it's not happening. Mind so it stops looking for pain when it's not happening, or rather, so it stopped reacting to pain as if it's happening now. And how that works is emotions. Emotional pain isn't caused by the event.
Speaker 1:Typically, when you are feeling anxious about something, that event is not happening in the now. In the present You're typically thinking about oh man, I have an interview tomorrow. I'm really nervous. And that nervousness is not coming from a place of what's happening now, because right now you're just thinking about it, but your unconscious mind sees the event vividly and it thinks it's happening now. And if it's happening now and you're worrying about it, that means it's dangerous, and dangerous means I'm going to die. So let's throw up anxiety so it stops you from doing that thing that you know you want to do. So during a brief, like hour, hour and a half conversation, we clear out misread threats, we reconnect with the present and then we make creative action feel possible again and typically, like I said, this shift happens in one single session.
Speaker 1:Now I have a variety of different flavors of how we can do this. I know some people don't like being on camera. I know some people don't like being on phone calls, so I have an asynchronous option through Voxer. So Voxer coaching five days, you tell me what the stuckness is, I give you feedback, maybe give you some steps on things that you can do to eradicate that. And then boom, you're off to the. My favorite one is clear and create. That's where we jump on a Zoom call or Google Hangout call, because that's what I'm using and you tell me what are the stucknesses or the stuckness.
Speaker 1:We work on one stuckness at a time, maybe two if we got time to. But you tell me what's holding you back from creating content. You tell me what's holding you back from starting that new idea. You tell me what you think is holding you back from being consistent, and then we talk about it, then we reset it and then we move forward with clarity. And the last option I have is a two-week package. This is basically I'm on your ass. In those two weeks we'll have two calls working on whatever stucknesses that you have, but it's ongoing coaching. We'll have a shared document between coaching. We'll have a shared document between us. We'll have some way to interact with each other on a daily basis. So when you feel those pains of anxiety or that imposter syndrome keep creeping up, you hit me up, we fix it right there and then you move forward.
Speaker 1:My goal is to get as many Black creators creating content, not only for financial reasons, because there's a lot of money to be had out here, a lot of money to be made out here for your content. But also I need more black faces on social media. I need more black faces doing things that typically we don't see Like in the last couple of years. Shout out to my homie, ronan. I got into D&D.
Speaker 1:In my brain my perception when I was younger D&D was only for white boys. Like I couldn't play D&D. It wasn't for me. I was getting made fun of A lot of things that I was allowing others to other people's thoughts to put that on me. It sunk in. Then I got older and I see I'm going to. I probably said this before, but Ronan is that boy's ripped. That's a big muscly like I wouldn't fuck with Ronan, but that man is super nice, super I'm going to say sweet and not in a bad way. No, I'm not justifying that. He's a sweet dude. I love that man and he is so giving with his time. He is so excited about D&D. He's getting people into it. He's doing a whole like he's started a whole movement. I don't know if he knows this, but I love D&D now.
Speaker 1:But because I was allowing what the media was saying and the different TV shows and just people around me. They were dictating what I thought I was allowed to do and that used to piss me off. I'm in a better place now mentally, but it's so sad to think of all this time that I missed out on something that is very enjoyable because I was allowing what other people may have said about what I was doing. Emphasis on may because I was allowing what other people may have said about what I was doing. Emphasis on may because I didn't know, but in my mind it was gospel. In my mind it was fact. Like this is what's going to happen if I do this.
Speaker 1:A lot of things that are keeping you back from creating content are exactly just like that. You think something's going to happen, you think that people aren't looking for you, you think that you're not going to be successful, and none of those are facts. So we have a simple option. Simple option to, instead of think that I'm not going to be successful, think that you are, and I know for some people that is a scary prospect and I believe it's because for some reason I'm going to blame movies and media on this. People think that not getting what you want is the worst thing in the world, like that feeling of putting yourself out there and not getting it. They think that's like a death sentence, to the point where their brain would not allow them to do that shit. No, you're not going to think about something. That's not possible, because that means death. That's what it is Like. You can argue with me all you want. That's what. Almost every problem when it comes to people not creating content comes down to fear and your unconscious mind reading that super incorrectly. I'm telling you now there is no detriment to thinking that the world is happening for you. The things that are happening in the world are happening for you, not to you. There's no downside.
Speaker 1:I'm not going to get into anger right now, but anger is one of those feelings that I think should be obsolete. People use anger as a way to show that they are protective or that they care or they are emotionally moved by an event. They think anger is the only option to derive from such manner. I think it's more important to be clear, neutral, understand the situation at hand and then act critically, versus being angry and acting out of emotion. Because, let me tell you, back in the day, when I was angry, there was no critical thinking it was. I'm going to rip this motherfucker's head off and let the cards fall where they may. I got family. I don't want to go to jail Like that sounds terrifying. So I don't want to be angry in situations like that. I want to be clear, I want to be on the offense, I want to be critically thinking, knowing, ok, this is a dangerous situation. I'm not angry, I'm not fearful, I'm cool, calm and collected. Let's get into it.
Speaker 1:And that is a mindset that is possible for everyone. Everyone has access to that. So if any of that sounded like something you're like, you know what. I want to hear more about this. Or I need to sign up for a fucking session right now. Hit me up. You can follow me on the TikTok. It's at Radiant Reflection no S. You can go over to my website, radiantreflection Best. Or you can go to the Stan store that I have set up it's stand dot store, slash coach Jermaine, and sign up. At the very least, go follow the TikTok so you can get some positive words into your brain, because it's all about perspective. If you don't think something is possible, there's no way you can go towards that possibility. You know what I'm saying. If you didn't know that it was possible to stream and make money, you wouldn't try to stream and make money, like you would just be streaming just for the fun of it. But when somebody says, hey, you can make money off of this, then it adds a whole nother level of things for your brain to quote unquote worry about, and then that stops you from being great. So get your mind right, get that mindset right, and I again, I will be getting on this more and more because I believe it's.
Speaker 1:I believe it's important for us to talk about our mental health. I watched a video Amanda Seals Shout out to Amanda Seals I know she's. I don't know why she got black back in the day, but she was arguing against I think it was a 1v2, like black people who were against black people. I don't remember exactly what the situation was, but back in the day two years ago, like seeing that would have pissed me off because there were so many people against their own people that it kind of like that would upset me, but it just kind of put things in perspective for me. There were a lot of people that probably kind of like that would upset me, but it just kind of put things in perspective for me. There are a lot of people that probably feel like that and they're loud. I don't feel like that. I need to be louder. I don't give into the toxic masculinity like the traits or what makes a real man, or any of that bullshit. I don't rock with that shit. I need to be louder about me, not rocking with that shit. So that's what I plan on doing.
Speaker 1:The only thing that stops people from talking on things that they enjoy or things that they believe is they fear the backlash that will come from the public. Because if that were to happen, our subconscious says, nope, that's death, let's not do that. So it throws up every excuse and emotional pain. If that were to happen, our subconscious says, nope, that's death, let's not do that. So it throws up every excuse and emotional pain to stop you from doing that. But if you realize you're not going to die and when you don't even fuck with, most people think it makes speaking out on subjects that much more easier.
Speaker 1:So I'm here to say black content creators, content creators, please get your mental health in order, pay attention to it. Know that being in a constant state of anxiety is not normal. Know that being in a constant state of anger is not normal, and nor does it have to be. That's not something that you have to deal with. You don't have to live a life that is full of anxiety, full of grief, full of anxiousness Like you. Just don't have to, and it's my job to remind people, or to let people know for the first time that that is not a reality that you need to live. There are other options first time, that that is not a reality that you need to live. There are other options. I'm going to talk a lot about perspective, because just the optics, the way that our brains work, like our unconscious mind takes a lot of shortcuts to keep us running optimal. An unconscious mind can be corrupted, it can be altered, it can be influenced, and if we're not aware of that influence, then a lot of crazy shit could happen, like you never getting consistent with your streaming schedule because you think nobody gives a fuck about you. I promise you I'm going to help you. I got your back.
Speaker 1:I believe that everyone is a content creator, but specifically those who ever had the thought of man, I want to make a YouTube video. If you've had that thought, keep pushing until it's making you money. The only way you fail is if you stop, and the only reason you stop is because you don't believe that you can do it. It's just a belief, baby. So many rap artists, so many actors, so many influential people say pretty much the same thing Do it until you make it. If you stop, then you fail. Believe it when nobody else believes it, because that's what it takes to get what you want out of this life. It doesn't take hard work. It doesn't take all the money in the world. It starts with you believing in yourself and letting the pieces fall where they may.
Speaker 1:So many times in my life, crazy shit has happened in order for me to get what I want. Like, I no longer look for the pattern or how am I going to get this thing. I just know if I want something, I think it, I start envisioning myself with it, or I start envisioning myself in situations that I want to be in and I feel in my head this is going to happen. Then it just happens, and often I don't even know how it happens. I just like thank you, appreciate it, and then I enjoy whatever the fuck that I was asking for, like when I got my new car. I have an inline Sonata 2022. Fortunately, me and the little ones got in an accident. Everybody was good. That car got fucked so I had to get a new car. The old car was a Sonata, so I was like, fuck it, I just want to get another Sonata. I didn't even know what an inline was, but it's basically a better version of the car I had and, of course, with that, it costs more money. I saw the one I wanted, but I wanted it for a specific price and I went to that dealer that I ended up getting it at and I was like I want it for this and they're like no, I will. No way, we'll ever do this.
Speaker 1:After that and prior to this, it was like a week of me every day just searching up cars. I just searching up cars. I was like man, I'll drive two hours to get this bitch. Whatever. I was looking at so many car dealer websites which all are garbage, by the way, and I believe they're all ran by the same like bagging company Cause. Anyways, after I saw this car, I put in my offer for the price. I stopped looking. I was like, nah, this is a car I want, not on some. If I don't get this, I'm not getting nothing, but I knew I was getting this car. It was just a matter of time, like there was no doubt in my mind that I'm getting that car.
Speaker 1:Two weeks go by, the car dealership hit me back up and they're like, hey, you still want that car for that price? I'm like, yes, I do, we'll be there today. Went in, picked up my shit it was the fastest in and out. Now, like I had to drive it, I had to do a test drive for, like I don't know legal reasons, I don't know, but I did it. I loved it. Went in like 15, 20 minutes, signed the paperwork oh, your credit is this high, holy shit. Yeah, yeah, yeah, give me my shit. And I was out and it was glorious and that's how things worked in my life. I just need to remember that everything that I've ever wanted just kind of happens. So I'm going to teach you how to get on that mindset and, at the very least, having this kernel of a story in your brain will help alter your perspective a little bit. So, either way, my job's done. But other than that, thank you for listening. I appreciate each and every one of you.
Speaker 1:If you haven't already, subscribe to the podcast Uploaded and unfiltered. I like to talk about mindsets, I like to talk about mental health and I like to talk about getting black content creators in a place where they can show up authentically and do what they do, because there's nobody better than us Like we've had we. There's so many examples. I'm not, we're not getting into that right now. We're not getting into that right now. But if you know any other creators who can get some benefits from conversations like these and more, please share the podcast with them, uploaded and unfiltered.
Speaker 1:I'm on your podcast, catcher of Choice, and I've been doing this for the last 100, 800, 900, I don't even know what episode it is, but I haven't missed a week yet and I don't plan on doing it, no matter what happens. So if you ever need something to maybe give you a lift up mentally, tune in. If you just want to laugh a little bit there's some jokes in here sometimes you know I'm funny Tune in. But other than that, thank y'all for listening. I appreciate you. Also, I forgot to say this Always brag, not brag. Always be grateful for the things that pop up and celebrate those. Shout out to Daniel J.
Speaker 1:She has a radio station in LA and I was on it last Saturday and let me tell you, being on the radio is crazy. Like I was listening to the radio for half of it and then I was listening to her do her part, which was dope, and then it was like, boom, I'm in. It was like, oh, in, it was like, oh, shit, I'm here. Um, it's a lot different than doing live streams, but it was fun and I kind of want to do it again. So, uh, y'all know anybody with radio stations out there that need somebody to talk about some mental health stuff? Let me know. Other than that, as always, protect your mental, keep creating content, and I'll see you in the next one. Peace, you in the next one, peace.
