Breaking Routines: The Key to Personal Growth
Send me a text! Be part of the show!
Have you ever wondered what happens when you deliberately disrupt the routines you've been running on autopilot for years? That comfortable, unconscious efficiency might actually be the very thing holding you back from your next breakthrough.
This episode dives deep into the transformative power of purposeful change as I share my recent decision to switch from iPhone to Android after 18 years—a seemingly small technology change that sparked unexpected creative energy and perspective shifts. When we force our brains to create new neural pathways by experiencing unfamiliar situations, we unlock hidden potential that remains dormant in our comfort zones.

Welcome. Welcome back to another episode of uploaded and unfiltered, the podcast in which I, your host, remain, interviews another content creator in regards to the journey thus far. Oh, my goodness, I need to change that, because we are definitely flipping the script on how this podcast operates. Also, the only way I can get through this intro is by saying that, holy crap, I'm not even kidding you. I recorded this at least three times I think this is take four when I was trying to switch up the intro and it just came out. And then I said the one that I always say and look at that. And that is a perfect segue into what I wanted to talk about today. Fuck all the hot eye, we're getting right into it.
Speaker 1:Routines it is vital that you look at the way that your life is moving, and what I mean by that is we. We get stuck in these routines, this thing that we do every day day after day, without thought, and that is the important point. I don't remember where I was hearing this, or someone told me this, but they were like oh man, I just go on autopilot when I drive home and I'm like autopilot, like meaning you're not even conscious of what you're doing. You're just letting that subconscious take over and do things. Now, the reason why I say this is because there is so much hidden potential, energy and all of these things that we call routines, that is ripe for change and ripe for the picking, and there is more than just the energy gain that you get from it, a reason why you should look into switching up things every once in a while. I fully believe that if you are open to more perspectives, if you are a reader, or if you are someone who watches a lot of content or you like to educate yourself, you are creating neural pathways in your brain to go elsewhere, to go places that you didn't even conceive of, because you didn't have that knowledge that you're currently getting and setting up that. So when you have a routine again, you're not using your brain, you're just like, oh, I'm doing this one thing over and over and over, and it just becomes routine, and then your brain doesn't need to create new neural pathways because it's like all right, this is what we're doing, but I know how to do this. Let's move this energy somewhere else. No, no, no, no, fuck that when you go out on a limb and change your habits, change the things that you're doing. That is when those things that you want actually start coming to you.
Speaker 1:There's so many people who said yearly routines on January 1st. They're like, oh, I want to set a goal of X, y and Z, but the problem is they don't change their routines. Yeah, that's a good thought to have, but you got to serve that thought up with action. Action needs to be right behind. This is what I want to do and, like I don't know why, it just clicked for me, but for you, for those who are seeing the video, I have a new phone.
Speaker 1:I bought the Galaxy Fold 7 and I love it. I've only had it for two days, but I already have so many ideas of content I want to create after it. Because I was on iOS, I had an iPhone since it launched. I told a dope story about that Not too in-depth, because I do feel like that's going to be a great story to tell. There's so many moving parts to it. But essentially I was like no, I'm not buying that phone up until like six hours before it was due to launch and I was like, all right, I guess I'm getting this phone, but you can check that story out on my sub stack, coach Jermaine. I will have a link to it in the bio below.
Speaker 1:I really love, I really love writing, and I forgot that I love writing because I haven't done it in so long. But I also really want to get the coaching business up and running, and one great way to do that is start getting people's eyes on your content. I need people to know who I am, what I think, how I view the world and how I'm living the world so they can be like. I want a piece of that. Sign up and change their life forever. So started up the sub stack.
Speaker 1:I am currently on my third. I'm doing it once a week. Every Monday there's a new article and this week I was talking about switching up your routines and just being able to see things you do through a different lens. Even if that's as simple as driving home a different way after you get off of work Something simple like that would work. But your brain does magical things when it has more information and more things to do, and I cannot wait to see what happens with this switch, because I've had an Android device since I left my previous job and I've had an iOS device for 18 years, since the phone launch. So there have been things that have just been baked in to like my everyday life because of my phone that I don't even think about.
Speaker 1:So when I was thinking about making a switch, I was talking about it with my daughters. I'm like, okay, it's gonna be this, I need to change this, I'll have to take a. I'll have to make sure that I there's a equivalent to this. Before the last I got the last week I really was like yo, we getting this. But before that, the thought of switching all of my stuff, my personal stuff from ios to android was insane. Now don't get me wrong. I've always been a fan of android phones. In fact, I wish apple would steal some of the stuff that android's doing, but whatever, we're not going to talk about that right now. But I've always been a uh, a fan of the platform that Android's doing but whatever, we're not going to talk about that right now. But I've always been a fan of the platform.
Speaker 1:It was just their first phone that they released, the G1, looked horrible, and I am someone who is moved by something new, something flashy. I like things that feel like it's in the future, and at the time the iPhone felt like that because it had no keyboard. The G1 did have a keyboard and you know what People who don't like change were super into that. They're like, oh man, I'm not going to get something other than the BlackBerry. But they bought the G1. And I was like that phone is ugly as shit. I think it had a trackball on it too, if I remember remember incorrectly. But like some of the things you could do on android, apple was like nah, we can't, nope, nope, fuck that. But having an iphone felt like being in the future. It had no one button, two buttons the home button and the power button and I guess the fucking volume rock and the switch, the ingenious switch to turn that bitch to silent, at which I had. I wish I had my flip, but whatever, the flip is sick at the, not the flip, the Fold 7. Anyways, but Hutch keyboard was an insane. I remember thinking that's fucking crazy because I had a Sidekick at the time. You know what? If you don't know what a Sidekick is? It's probably one of the best phones before smartphones went crazy ever. It fucking the screen technology is swiveled up. That thing broke a lot. They probably could have fixed that, maybe that part so, but they had a keyboard on it and it was a great keyboard for thumbs and it was nice and clicky. Oh my God, that thing was dope. Anyways, I traded in my keyboard, my physical keyboard, for a touchscreen phone and I never looked back Like it was great and I'm not going to lie, the ecosystem that Apple has created is great.
Speaker 1:Like if you are all in on Apple, you're going to have a good time like computing and doing things that you do with your phone and computer. I will miss AirDrop. I will miss having iMessages. Well, you know what I thought I was going to miss having iMessages because I like to be. If my wife hits me with a text and I'm on my computer, I want to be able to see it respond. If need be, I'll be able to do that on Android. We'll get into that in another video. Follow kryptonite on YouTube if you want to see the conclusion of that.
Speaker 1:Anyways, there's a lot of things that are great about having all iOS devices, but over the last I don't even know how long six years, maybe seven the iPhone has not looked any different. Like I can give a fuck about the camera now because I have a DJI Pocket Osmo and this switch is going to make me use that DJI Pocket Osmo way more, but and at the time the cameras were dope. The cameras are still, in my opinion, because maybe I've been there for so long they're still better than what you get on an Android device. But a camera is not enough to keep me. And then I start to think about it more and I was like this change is going to force me to look at everything differently. I want that, let me get that. Oh yeah, I switched. I'm fully. I'm'm not gonna turn this in. I'm gonna keep this phone for at least three years and I'm in unless, unless apple makes a phone phone. It's better than the fold 7. I don't see that happening. Some of the rumors I'm seeing are, uh, concerning, so I'm not worried about that. So much. Yeah, all in on android. It's gonna be a good time. The fold seven is ridiculous, but this change now it's not as crazy as what you see in the movie.
Speaker 1:But if you've seen the movie everything all at once in order to jump timelines, to switch timelines to quantumly you know I'm saying like go into a different life, that you're the same person. Whatever they had to do some crazy shit that was so abnormal to what they were normally doing. That would push them into the other shit. You know what I'm saying, so you hear what I'm saying. So they would have to like I can't think of anything right now, but they had to like staple a piece of paper to their butt. I don't think they did that. Maybe they did, but doing so would make them quantity jump all day. Also, I think they had like a helmet, or maybe, I don't know, they were doing it with some technology. So don't just go stapling shit to your ass thinking you're gonna jump to the next level, or maybe, after you hear what I'm about to say. So I, for me, I feel like dropping my daily driver to android. Is that flip, plus, plus, plus.
Speaker 1:I'm not going to tell you how dope it is to have a fucking eight inch tablet in your pocket at all times. That doesn't take any more space in your pockets, like the phone. Close is a 6.5 inch screen and it is dope. Big fan of that. It looks great. It's not as big as my Pro Max, but whatever. But when you open that, oh my God, first of all, you don't even see that. I forgot there was supposed to be a crease in the goddamn screen. The screen looks gorgeous and being able to multitask, and that thing is dope Scrolling.
Speaker 1:Instagram and not Facebook. I almost said Facebook, but Facebook. Tiktok, youtube, reading emails I'm able to do work that I usually go to my computer for on the fucking tablet. I'm going to say that one more time. Typically, I have there's a website. I upload a bunch of my shit to his website, schedule them and have them boom, boom, boom, send them out. I can't do that shit on an iPhone, on any web browser, even if I do switch over to desktop mode, and even I did the screen signing, but with this bitch that was one of the first things I checked I was like I opened up I use Edge because, again, there's a reason for that, but when I went to the website, logged in, scheduled the post, and the shit worked, and I was like, oh, a game changer. This is going to be amazing.
Speaker 1:But for real, though, like this change is going to make me think differently about a lot of stuff, and I'm all about questioning my thoughts Like where the fuck did this thought come from? Is it something that I need to be thinking now? Is it beneficial to my life? Is it helping me get to the goal that I'm trying to achieve and, if no, I figure out a way to let that shit go. At least I say out loud hey, this thought is not useful. You can go ahead and go away, don't worry about it, just leave and we'll be cool.
Speaker 1:But I have not been thinking about the routines that I do. I've been trying to start routines and then I fall back into this lazy. I wake up with the alarm goes off and then I wake up and I'm groggy. I'm trying to wake up with energy so I can start the day on the best foot. I'm trying to go to sleep at a decent time. Right now, decent is like 3 am. If I get into bed at 3 am, it's a good night. That's crazy.
Speaker 1:But I think this move is going to force me to look at everything differently and I am fucking excited about that. Like you can probably hear how excited I am about it, but I am. It's going to be dope, it's going to be a good time. So if there's anything in your life that has been routine that you have not looked at, that you have not changed at all, maybe just give it a look and see if there's anything that you can change. That will force you to think differently about the things that you're doing Now. Don't pick something that's like yo, this is set in stone, I can't change this, it'll happen that. Don't cause stress for yourself, but do know some change is good and I think, in order to get that thing that is on the other side of that fear and that waiting period, that thing that you really want, you're going to have to change some shit in order to get it. And it's going to be worth it Because you're going to get it. And you're going to look back and be like damn, that didn't take that much time at all. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1:I could have just been cool and be like you know what I want, this, this is who I am, I'm getting this and I could have been there a little quicker. But you know what? Sometimes we got to drag our feet. I mean, no, we don't. We don't need to drag our feet. I'm going to look in the camera in this one. We don't need to drag our feet. Claim what you want and go after it period, like once you start living in the feeling of the thing that you want, like you can feel what it's going to feel like to see triple, almost triple digits I was thinking of 600K in your bank account or when you see your numbers climbing to a number that you didn't think possible. But you knew you were going to make a video that hit a million, hit a million views, hit a million likes, hit a million comments, like some people just feel that again.
Speaker 1:I'm going to tell this crazy story back in whenever, when I was working in corporate Christmas party it was real corporate, it was a school I had a raffle ticket. They were calling out raffle tickets Boom, boom, boom. I wasn't paying no attention. I walked like towards the middle, towards the back of the room, and I just felt, oh, I'm winning the next one. I'm like, oh, the next one's mine. I said that shit out loud. Four or five people heard me. They're like what I'm like? Whatever the numbers are, it's going to be my numbers. I'm just going to start walking up there and get it. They're like yo, are you crazy? I'm like no, I just know. Motherfucker Kept it moving.
Speaker 1:As they were calling the numbers, I got up to almost the first step and I looked down and the last number was mine. Boom, with my like, boom, boom, here you go and everybody just looked baffled. They're like you were walking up here before. I'm like confidence baby, I knew I was gonna win this and I don't even remember what the fuck I want. It wasn't some shit that I were like I don't think it was worth it. Like how you leave the bet like the shitty gift for the last. What are you doing? Like no, honestly, now that I think about this, I think it was like an emergency roadside shit. I don't fucking what. A that should have been one of the first gifts to go away. But B if you're trying to get people to stay which is the point of raffles in my head like you're trying to get people to stay and mingle and like fucking, if you're in a trade show, like look at your boobs and all that shit, that's what the fucking raffles for it Leave the best shit for last so people stay. All right, we're done. We're done. I'm going off topic. I appreciate y'all for listening.
Speaker 1:I am excited to see what the next month is as far as my career goes and the things that I'm trying to do and trying to bring to this world. I am excited as fuck. I feel driven, I feel motivated and I feel momentum, which is the best thing out of all those things to feel momentum, because with momentum, you're going to start doing shit that typically you wouldn't do. I'm on 113, 114. I don't even know what episode this is, but momentum has kept me here Because I guess what I could have been in bed asleep right now.
Speaker 1:I could have been you know what I could have been. My wife was just going to be like there's other things. I could have been. You know what I could have been. My wife was just going to be like there's other things. I could be playing Apex right now. I could be playing Tekken, which I got back into. Damn, I missed Tekken. I haven't played Tekken in like a month. So good, I could be writing a script for my YouTube video Tomorrow. I think I'm just going to do a freestyle off the cuff.
Speaker 1:Hey, I switched over to Android from iOS here, ios. Here's why. And then talk about the things that I miss, talk about the things that I love and the things that I've gained, and then you know, go from there. But my phone's going crazy, I don't know why. Oh, youtube comments, baby, the content's going crazy. I'm telling you, your boy's going to be partnered on YouTube by the end of this year, partnered on TikTok by the end of this year. Where else am I Instagram on TikTok by the end of this year? Where else am I Instagram? Like some things are shaking moving Instagram. I still don't understand. I still don't understand Instagram Coaching business is going to be popping. Things are happening, because that's what I want and that's what I'm looking forward to and that's what I worry about on a day to day is what's going to feel good. I helped three or four people today. Who was going to feel good? That thousand people saw my video about mindset.
Speaker 1:Anyways, appreciate y'all, thank y'all for listening. If you don't already subscribe to the podcast, do that, upload it and unfilter what on every podcast catcher of your choice, probably. And if I'm not, it's probably like real obscure and I don't know. I don't know if the energy is there to put them, but you let me know. If you're there and I'm not, I'll fix that because, hell yeah, I'm trying to be in more people's faces. If you have a Substack, subscription or account, go to my Substack and subscribe, or at least read the last story about changing your routine or the power of changing your routine. Post Jermaine is where you can find that, and I will also have a link to my Stan store. If you want a session with me to change something that is keeping you stuck from creating content, hit me up. The link will be in the bio or the description of this podcast.
Speaker 1:Anyways, thank y'all for listening. Thank you for indulging me in what I love to do. I am so fucking happy. I'm so fucking blessed. My life is amazing. My family is amazing, my wife is amazing, my kids are amazing, my house is amazing. I could go on, and this is not bragging. This is me showing gratitude to myself and remembering to remember. You got some dope shit and I got a two thousand dollar phone. This shit's amazing. I mean, I didn't pay listen, I ain't paid 2004. I got a crazy insane deal on it actually, um, but more on that later. Uh, follow me on all my socials. It's about to go crazy.
Speaker 1:My wife said something that, like I don't know, sparked this thought in my head. There's this content creator who I mean, of course, all right, like he, he was doing his thing. Yeah, he was hitting numbers, but I was like I don't get it. But my wife and then her sister loved this dude and I was like what is it about? They're like not like the content that he makes, but what is it about it that you're like I'm going to watch this? And she was like he looks genuinely happy about whatever the fuck he's talking about. He was talking about some crazy shit and I was like I can do that. I was like that's me, like I've been holding back, that's me all day.
Speaker 1:So I'm excited to unleash that on the world because we need it. We need more positive role models. We need more happiness. We need more joy because it's wild out there. I don't know if you pay attention, but it's wild out there. And the more positive you can keep your mindset, I promise you, the better you'll be.
Speaker 1:Being positive doesn't mean that you are not responsible, that you're not paying attention to what's going on in the world. You can pay attention to evil shit and not have it affect you negatively, I promise you. That's how I am. That's how excited I am. That's why I'm so excited. That's why I feel the way I do about life, because I keep my shit in a positive as much as possible, because the alternative is paying for me and everybody around me. Fuck that. I love my family, I love my friends, I love the people I come in contact with, so I want them to get the best version of me. And you know what the best version of me is super positive, happy and excited about life. So with that, I think I said this like six times. But whatever, here's seven motherfucker and excited about life. So with that, I think I said this like six times. But whatever, here's seven motherfucker. I appreciate y'all, thank y'all for listening and, as always, protect your mental, keep creating content and I'll see you in the next one. Peace.
